Landed in San Fran for GDC + Gamma Guardian Demo
This weekend has been eventful! I landed in San Francisco to participate in GDC and released the first demo for my project Gamma Guardian. This is my first time in the city and it has been absolutely wonderful. For starters, the flight down was beautiful. The sights were lovely and it was nice to soar over the midwest. Being from the SouthEast, we don't see many deserts, plains, or mountains. However, I got plenty a beautiful view on the flight over. I was able to do some exploring in the city today in Japantown and I am looking forward to making new connections over the next week at GDC.
When it comes to my midterm demo, I am incredibly proud of my team. We managed to get all of the goals we had for the demo complete. Our collaboration was excellent and I am so happy to be part of such a great team. For this game, we are simulating HLH in a child-friendly way to teach children about how the disease functions and how we treat it. HLH is a disorder where when the body is threatened with an infection, it responds inproperly by inflaming rapidly. The immune cells become hyperactive due to the overactivity of a cytokine called an interferon gamma.
The player is tasked to managing the inflamation while treating the infection that is the source of the inflammation. They must carefully deactivate gammas and calm the immune cells so they can complete their task effectively while not harming the body. We managed to get the core loop with deactivating interferon gammas and killing all the bacteria complete. We also implemented the level UI, and it is fully functional. Our next steps are to implement the inflammation mechanic, our secondary medicine, the rest of the menus, the tutorial, rest of the sound, and rest of the artwork. The list may seem large but I believe our team is on the right track to complete all of our goals!
